 WHAT'S NEW

The Locust Grove & Western Railroad is a twenty-foot by thirty-foot, HO scale, modular layout representing a fictional shortline railway. The operation is set in north central Alabama in the 1950's; a time of transition between steam and diesel engines and rich in the history of rail. A second, mainline Class I railroad, "The Southern" is also represented on the layout. The LG&W was built and is operated by the Wrecking Crew to promote the hobby of model railroading to the general public through the presentation of a high quality model, prototypical, operating layout.

The layout consists of twelve thirty-inch by sixty-inch modules plus four diagonal corner modules. Two sixteen foot long staging yards are located on the inside of the layout. Digitrax DCC is used for train, signal, and switching control. Scenery is based on typical features found in Central Alabama.

Construction on the layout began in 2000 and was substantially completed in 2005. In 2006 three of the modules underwent major reconstruction to enlarge one of our cities and improvements have been made every year since. The layout replaced a smaller layout that was started in 1989.
